Kevin Anthony : Hip Hop Has A New Rising Star
(4UMF NEWS)LOOKS LIKE HIP HOP HAS A NEW RISING STAR; AND HIS NAME IS KEVIN ANTHONY:
A lot of people may not be familiar with this next MC, but he’s definitely one to watch! As an actor, he’s worked alongside the likes of Denzel Washington, Zoe Saldana, and Cameron Diaz. Though as a rapper, only a handful of people would know of Kevin Anthony.

Q: Where did you grow up?
A: I grew up in Philadelphia, all over North Philly basically.

Q: When did you start rapping?
A: Ah man, I started out when I was 7 yrs old. I made my first album with my cousin when I was 9 yrs old… it wasn’t really an album, but you know.
Q: What have you done so far to get yourself out there?
A: More like what haven’t I done… I remember battling dudes on 5th and Ansbury to be exact. Heads would come down from New York and we would get in cyphers and battle. Nothing pre written. I use to do shows through out North Philly, and Cousin’s on 5th and Rockland was that spot back in the day, if you were a local and wanted some shine. Just paying my dues man, giving CD’s out in the streets doing free shows wherever, I would show up to other established artists video sets and start spittin’. I was actually discovered on set by Tim & Bob who flew me to ATL where we recorded several records. Turns out that I never did sign with them. But I got a lot of respect for those dudes; they are legends.
Q: You mentioned that you were an actor, what movies have you been in?
A: I was fortunate enough to be in a few movies; Snipes, In Her Shoes, National Treasure and Fallen.
Q: Who were you inspired by growing up?
A: A lot of people, there are so many ; Rakim for example, Nas, Biggie, Big Pun, Tupac Tha Alkaholiks‘, Funk Doobiest, King Tee, Snoop, OGC, Scarface, The Lox oh, and the Roots. And the Mix Tape Dj’s …Tony Touch, DJ Clue, and DJ Kay Slay
Q: What are your plans as an artist to contribute to the Hip Hop culture?
A: To attempt to restore the essential fundamentals back into Hip Hop. You know, making music that have concepts, that are meaningful, and filled with substance. That’s what I feel Hip Hop is about. I know its been said a lot that artists want to make music that people can relate to, but a lot of times when you hear the finished product everything is money money money; which is cool… but keep it 100. If every song you make are full of money bars then you aren’t making music that I, the fan can relate to.
Q: What do you think of Hip Hop/ where do you see it going?
A: Man listen, I think that Hip Hop is coming back to a good place. And what I mean by that is, there is a little bit more of a variety going on where we hear sounds from the South, West Coast, my bad the Fresh Coast and that’s inspiring for an artist like myself. I see everything coming back full circle. Where the music actually means something like it once did. For example, if I hear a song out I want it to hit me… I want to think a little, life isn’t always a party. So I just don’t want to always hear a club song when I turn the radio on. that’s not to dis anyone who makes party/club music either, it just needs to be more of a balance.

I’ve heard this mix tape “The Classics” and its dope. Some of the best work I’ve heard in a long time. I didn’t even have to skip through anything.
