( 4UMF NEWS ) Zimmerman’s Fundraising Site Goes Dark:
The website George Zimmerman was using to solicit funds for his legal defense has been pulled down.
TheRealGeorgeZimmerman.com has gone dark while his lawyer, Mark O’Mara, is working to restructure the fund, Fox News reported.
The volunteer neighborhood watchman launched the site on April 10 and was using a PayPal account to ask for money to fight second-degree murder charges he faces for killing Trayvon Martin on Feb. 26.
The site contained photos of pro-Zimmerman slogans, including a sign at a rally by hatemongering preacher Terry Jones and graffiti scrawled on a college’s black cultural center. There was also a handful of inspirational quotes, including one from Thomas Paine that said, “The world is my country, all mankind are my brethren, and to do good is my religion.”
O’Mara told Fox News he was also working to pull down a number of phony Zimmerman websites and Twitter accounts that have cropped up in recent weeks.
“I’m trying to scrub through all of them and take action to have them taken down,” O’Mara said. “We are currently going through the Division of Consumer Service for an authorized fund. We will likely put up another website for donations, but it will be done so through my office.”
Zimmerman has pleaded not guilty to murdering the 17-year-old teen in Sanford, Fla.
He was released from jail on Sunday after posting a $150,000 bond and has gone back into hiding.
