( 4UMF NEWS ) Yung Dred Interview:

4UMF had the opportunity to sit down with Tampa‘s own Yung Dred. The independent artist has been on the grind since the age of 12. Heavily influenced by his father and his brother, both in the music industry, it was natural for Yung Dred to step into the family business.

Yung Dred entered the industry immediately making noise with his viral hit ‘Play Ball’ featuring Richie Wess and Drake.

‘It was en exclusive mixtape record that went viral online,’ Yung Dred says. ‘As soon as we did it, we put in online and two minutes later it had a hundred youtube videos. It was crazy!’

4UMF covered the gamut in Yung Dred’s career who opened up about his extensive mixtape resume, the ‘Calling Me’ Lil Boosie song he was featured on that created a frenzy when the Louisiana rapper went to jail and the family business YTC Entertainment that was founded by his brother Richie Wess, who is also on the roster.

Many artists in the industry today are opting to go the independent route as opposed to signing with a major label. Yung Dred opens up about the benefits of being an independent artist.

‘[On a major label] Sometimes people get put in the line-up and get pushed all the way back. As an independent we move when we want to move. I like to have control.’

Yung Dred’s current single ‘Throwin Racks’ featuring Gucci Mane is heavy in rotation across the country and in the clubs.

Look out for the video which will be shot both in Tampa and in Atlanta right in time for the summer.

The third installment of Yung Dred’s iGrind series is available now.
