( 4UMF NEWS ) Women’s Finals Postponed:
Serena Williams will have to wait another day, at least, before winning her 15th major title.
Because of early rain showers on Saturday, and the threat of far worse weather conditions on Saturday night, U.S. Open officials postponed the women’s final until Sunday. The starting time of the women’s final was to be established on Saturday evening, but will definitely be held before the men’s final.
Williams is the heavy favorite over Victoria Azarenka, having defeated the Belarusian nine out of 10 times in career meetings, including seven straight over the last three years. But regardless of the result, Azarenka will remain the No. 1-ranked player after the tournament while Williams will be stuck at No. 4.
“She’s the toughest opponent there is in the draw, and being in the final makes it even more difficult,” Azarenka said. “You look at our record, it says it all. I definitely need to find something to surprise her tomorrow, because she’s in great form. She has everything on her side.”
Except the weather.
