( 4UMF NEWS ) Woman Gives Birth On Airplane:

A woman who was traveling alone gave birth on an airplane after fellow passengers sprang to action, Fox 13 News reports. Susan Carnes, a flight attendant for Delta, said she was working an international flight on March 23 when Katherine Oyedoh went into labor.

“I saw her, and I just knew the way she was leaned over and moaning — I just knew,” she told the station.

Carnes yelled to the other passengers, “Is there a doctor on board?”

Dr. Patrick Ojukwu, an OB/GYN from Stockbridge, Ga., was on the plane, and jumped up to help. Despite the scene around her, Carnes said Oyedoh remained relatively calm.

“She was very strong,” Carnes said. “She was very scared at first. She was traveling alone, and she was in a public place, having a baby. On an airplane , how crazy is that?”

Carnes began to gather supplies like towels, gloves and scissors, and other passengers offered their help. One timed Oyedoh’s contractions with his watch. Two others, who had medical training, monitored her blood pressure.

When it was time to tie the umbilical cord, yet another passenger offered his shoelaces. A flight attendant soaked the laces and a pair of scissors from Carnes’ gear bag in a cup of voda to sterilize them.

The baby, named Ebosalume, was delivered safely.

“I took the baby to hand it over, and I lifted him across the seats,” Carnes said. “And as I did, I noticed everyone was looking at me, and I just raised it up and said, ‘It’s a boy!’ And the whole airplane broke out into applause and laughter.”

Fifteen minutes later, the plane, which was flying from Africa to Atlanta. diverted to Dakar, Senegal, and Oyedoh and her baby were taken to a hospital.

They will fly back to California, where the baby’s father is waiting, on Thursday.

Crazy…
