( 4UMF NEWS ) Ubisoft To Release Hip Hop Dance Game:
Having devoted dance titles to Michael Jackson and The Black Eyed Peas, publisher Ubisoft is taking on the hip-hop genre.
The company recently announced development of The Hip Hop Dance Experience, launching this November for the Nintendo Wii, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
The game’s hip-hop routines are all original, produced by choreographers such as Dave Scott of So You Think You Can Dance and Laurieann Gibson, who has worked with artists including Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Puff Daddy.
“The medium of video games is synonymous with hip hop,” says Gibson, who currently serves as creative director for artist Nicki Minaj. “It’s a competitive world, an original world, a fearless world. “We love the idea of bringing that energy to the video game market.”
“Hip hop is so organic,” adds Scott. “It’s just wide open. When you’re in your house just doing your regular two-step, you’re hip hoppin’.”
The game features 40 songs spanning hip-hop history, from Rapper’s Delight by The Sugarhill Gang to Work Hard, Play Hard by Wiz Khalifa.
There are also several modes for both cooperative and competitive dancing, such as Dance Battle, Dance Party and the endurance-testing Dance Marathon.
Hip Hop Dance Experience also offers progressive difficulty levels to ease players into the routines. “We tried to make it to where anybody at home is comfortable enough to not only just dance and feel the experience of a dance game, but they’re gonna … make you feel like that artist or that superstar dancer,” says Scott.
