( 4UMF NEWS ) Two Children Crushed By Tree:
Two children were removed from the home where they died, crushed by a falling tree that crashed during Hurricane Sandy.
Jack Baumler, 11, and his neighbour Michael Robson, 13, died almost instantly after the massive tree crashed into the living room of Baumler’s home in North Salem, New York, at 7.45pm. Heartbreaking images of their small frames being removed from the scene have since been released, showing the grave faces of the medical examiners tasked with the sad task.
‘At this point, we know that a large tree came crashing through the house, hitting both subjects,’ Major Michael Kopy, from the state police, said.
Two more children, aged 12 and 15, were treated for minor scrapes at the scene. Baumler’s mother was also home but was not injured, The Journal News reported.
Kopy added that the Croton Falls Fire Department arrived shortly after the tree fell and tried to revive the children, but the tree was too large and they died ‘almost instantly’.
The tree, which measured three-and-a-half feet in diameter, had been around 60 feet from the family’s home, but became uprooted by the storm and crashed through the middle of the house.
