( 4UMF NEWS ) Two Bears Duke It Out:
The fur was flying recently when a pair of black bears went paw-to-paw in a bloody brawl on a Florida family’s front lawn. The rarely seen fuzzy-wuzzy fisticuffs were captured in a video that was posted to YouTube last week.
“I just see one bear slash the other one in the face, and they’re falling down on the ground and wrestling,” Clayton Snell told WFTV 9 News.
He then ran inside to tell his mother.
“[Clayton] says, ‘Mom, you’re not going to believe it. There are two big bears out there fighting,’” Tammy Snell told WESH 2 News. “So, of course, we get up and run out.”
The video shows the two bears claw and bite one another, at one point standing up on their hind legs:
“To see two bears at once is pretty cool in itself,” Tammy Snell said, according to WFTV 9 News. “These were big, I would say 300 or 400 pounds.”
Bears are not an unusual sight in the Sweetwater Oaks neighborhood of Longwood, she noted.
The battle lasted just a few minutes, and the bears walked away peacefully. No one was hurt.
“We have bears in our front yards, we have bears in our garages,” Tammy told the Orlando Sentinel. “It’s a part of living where we live.”
The bear battle lasted approximately two minutes. Florida wildlife officials believe it was a territorial dispute between two young males.
