( 4UMF NEWS ) Truck Driver Drags Woman Two Blocks:
A 58-year-old woman on a scooter was crushed to death by a flatbed truck in the West Village Monday, officials said.
The victim, who lived in downtown Manhattan, was hit crossing Sixth Ave. by a truck turning right from Houston St. onto the avenue about 8:50 a.m., police said.
The woman was dragged two blocks up Sixth Ave. to Carmine St., said horrified witnesses.
“There were a dozen people running up the street screaming and telling him to stop. He didn’t notice,” said Christian Cruz, 25, a truck driver from the Bronx who was making deliveries nearby. “I saw all the blood and couldn’t look anymore.”
The woman died at the scene and her body remained under the wheels of the truck Monday morning as cops probed her gruesome death.
The driver of the truck remained at the scene.
Malllik Carriazo, 34, who works at Kingdom Tattoos near the crash, said he knew something was wrong when heard screaming.
“I thought someone was fighting,” Carriazo said. “I saw a guy coming out of the truck screaming. He put his hands on his head like, ‘What did I do?’”
“He started screaming and crying,” Carriazo added about the driver.
The truck remained on the scene, covered by a tarp. Sixth Ave. was closed to traffic during the height of rush hour for the investigation.
