Teyana Taylor is making a big statement when she names her latest project The Miseducation of Teyana Taylor. Lauryn Hill’s The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill is a classic album that blended hip hop, R&B, soul and pop, easily crossing over into mainstream. After having her debut album shelved and had more blog posts about her bad behavior than good songs, many wanted to know who exactly is Teyana Taylor.

Taylor fittingly opens up The Miseducation of Teyana Taylor where she talks about being understood and having understanding in an interview. Taylor, too, is looking to be understood in this new mixtape.

Taylor looks to answer that Taylor channels ‘Ex-Factor’ in ‘Her Room’ but it’s in ‘Lauryn Interlude’ where Taylor almost becomes Ms. Hill herself. The Miseducation of Teyana Taylor is not only reminiscent of Lauryn Hill’s record-shattering solo debut album, Taylor also looks to the Queen of Hip Hop Soul Mary J. Blige for inspiration as well. Taylor’s ‘You Know’ and ‘Come On’ pays homage to the queen.

Guest appearances include features with Fabolous, Jadakiss, Wale, Travis Porter and more. By the end of the 15-track project, Taylor more than answers who she is.

Songs that got the repeat treatment: ‘Gatekeeper,’ ‘Make Your Move’ featuring Wale, ‘You Know,’ ‘Bad Boy’ featuring Honey Cocaine, ‘DUI‘ featuring Fabolous and Jadakiss and ‘8th Wonder.’
