( 4UMF NEWS ) Tennis Referee Kills Husband:
A 70-year-old tennis referee working the upcoming U.S. Open was arrested in New York City Tuesday on suspicion of bludgeoning her elderly husband to death with a coffee mug in Los Angeles last April, prosecutors said.
Lois Ann Goodman was taken into custody on a felony murder warrant while she ate breakfast at an undisclosed location and is awaiting extradition to California, authorities said.
The April 17 death of Alan Goodman was initially considered an accident because investigators were told the 80-year-old fell down stairs, a source told the Daily News.
Investigators suspected foul play and later determined the dead man’s injuries were not consistent with a fall.
Detectives presented their case to prosecutors last week and learned their prime suspect was in New York to officiated matches at the U.S. Open, police said.
Los Angeles Police officials flew to New York and made the arrest in conjunction with NYPD Tuesday.
