( 4UMF NEWS ) Tallest Man Gets Custom-Made Reeboks:
It really is all about the shoes — especially when you are 7 feet, 8 inches tall. Igor Vovkovinskiy, the tallest man in the U.S., finally received custom-made sneakers Thursday after an agonizingly long wait.
The Rochester, Minn., resident has undergone 16 foot surgeries in six years because he could not find comfortable shoes for his size 24, 10E feet. Now he hopes to be pain-free after receiving the three custom pairs from Reebok.
“Wow!” he said, as he marveled to the Rochester Post-Bulletin. “It feels so good, like I’m walking on pillows or mattresses.”
The shoes were expensive, but Vovkovinskiy started an online fundraising drive earlier this year and raised more than $32,000. After raising the money, he made a trip to Reebok headquarters in Canton, Mass., where he underwent tests so the sneaker company could create the perfect shoe for his unusually large feet.
The sneakers arrived Thursday and changed his life.
“I’m going to be able to go to the store for groceries or the hardware store if I need to fix something at my mom’s house,” he told the Post-Bulletin.
One of the first orders of business for Vovkovinskiy is to lose weight. With his life-changing new shoes, he hopes to get down to 350 pounds from his current 430, he told the newspaper.
“For so long it hurt to have shoes on,” he told the paper. “Every day, I was in pain. I want to be active again and walk. I can barely walk two blocks now. Before, I could walk two miles.”
