Aactos Kevin Costner and Stephen Baldwin squared off in a Louisiana courtroom Monday over a business deal that gushed money following BP’s oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
The legal drama centered on a lawsuit Baldwin filed against Costner after the April 2010 Deepwater Horizon disaster.
Baldwin claims Costner and a business partner duped him and another friend out of millions as BP negotiated to buy oil-separating centrifuges developed by the “Bodyguard” star for cleanup efforts.
During opening statements Monday, Costner’s lawyer said his client played no role in Baldwin’s decision to sell his stake in the firm for $500,000 as the BP talks were ongoing in June 2010. Baldwin’s lawyer told jurors that Costner hid details of the pending BP deal.
Baldwin and the other plaintiff are suing for $21 million in damages.
