( 4UMF NEWS ) Sex Offender Escapes Jail:
A prosecutor has hit out after a former middle school teacher who had sex with a 13-year-old student escaped a lengthy jail.
Kristy Sanchez-Trujillio had faced up to 24 years in jail after pleading guilty to under age sex.
But the single mother-of-three was sentenced to less than a year of community custody.
Sanchez-Trujillo,36, had admitted having sex with the teen in her SUV at the Petroglyphs National Monument in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 2009.
Prosecutor Nicholas Marshall had urged the court to give her the maximum sentence under her plea deal which would have seen the former teacher jailed for five years.
Marshall expressed his disappointment with what he saw as a lenient sentence.
‘The fact that the parents entrust these people who care for them, this individual violated that trust and so it was our hope that she was going to serve a period of incarceration,’ Marshall said.
Sanchez-Trujillo was a social studies teacher at Jimmy Carter Middle School in Albuquerque when she became involved with the teenager.
Court records show that she admitted having sex with the 13-year-old on several occasions in her car.
