( 4UMF NEWS ) Police Seek Witnesses To Fatal Crash:
Richard A. Phillips, 54, of Barefoot Bay died Monday in the crash. Two others had less-severe injuries.
Officers haven’t disclosed further details of the crash, which happened about 3:20 p.m. They said they have received conflicting statements from those involved and are looking for anyone who saw what happened.
Richard Phillips’ wife, Robin, was on a third motorcycle but managed to avoid being struck, she told relatives. Longtime motorcycle enthusiasts, the Phillipses were riding with another couple for the day, said Dawn Phillips of Indiana, Richard Phillips’ sister.
“He was a great guy,” Dawn Phillips said. “He was always thinking about everybody before himself.”
Phillips, an Indiana native, was a proud grandfather who moved to Florida seven years ago, his sister said. In 2008, he and his wife survived a tornado that ripped through their neighborhood in southeast Brevard after Tropical Storm Fay made landfall.
At the time, Richard Phillips was in bed recuperating from a heart attack, his family said.
His faith, no doubt, sustained him. Phillips, who is pictured in a Facebook photo wearing a “Christian biker” T-shirt, had gone on mission trips to Haiti and Africa along with his wife.
“She’s lost her soulmate and the love of her life,” Dawn Phillips said.
Police ask anyone with information about the crash to call them at 407-891-6700 and ask for the traffic unit at ext. 6749.
