( 4UMF NEWS ) Passengers Subdue Wasted Model On Flight:
The Orange County Register writes passengers on the flight “were forced to tackle and use their own belts to restrain a man who was harassing and scaring passengers, according to an Orange County man who was on the flight.”
“You see stuff like this on TV and the news but you never think it’s going to happen to you,” Flight 473 passenger David Truong says to the newspaper.
The Associated Press identifies the alleged unruly flier as 26-year-old Arash Durrani, saying he was taken into custody and now faces charges of interfering with a flight crew. Video from local news outlets – including NBC Los Angeles and KTLA – shows Flight 473 passengers cheering and clapping as Durrani was apprehended upon landing at John Wayne Airport.
Witnesses say the man began pacing the aircraft about 45 minutes into flight, and then started harassing several people onboard.
One woman says the man grabbed her by the hair and said he wanted to kiss her.
“He was completely wasted,” the woman adds to the Register. “He had three straight Jack Daniels and a beer and he was getting another drink.”
Passengers finally decided to subdue him after children on the flight became scared by the episode.
NBC Los Angeles says Durrani “was restrained for nearly three hours, and a doctor on the flight tried to sedate him with valium.”
“He would go in and out of consciousness, but every time he came around he would try to fight again,” Truong says in an interview with NBC.
Witnesses tell KTLA that the man was drinking heavily and appeared to have prescription drugs in his backpack.
KTLA reports on its website that “according to IMBd.com, Durrani is an actor, model and founder of GROW Clothing, a company geared toward promoting awareness of social movements and charities.”
