It seems the public outcry has worked because it was just announced that the ING NYC Marathon that was scheduled to take place on Sunday has been cancelled.

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has received a lot of flack from New York residents over plans to continue with the marathon as planned while the city still digs out from the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.

The NYC Road Runners Club will have additional info regarding the cancellation of the marathon.
