( 4UMF NEWS ) Nursing Home Worker Caught Stealing Dead Patient’s Jewelry:
A caregiver has admitted that she swiped $9,000 worth of jewelry from the body of a 84-year-old patient after the elderly woman died, police say.
Kathleen Barrett, 49, said she took a necklace and three rings from the deceased woman and pawned them to pay for her groceries.
Barrett had been looking after Joanne Irving at the Boca Home Health in Boca Raton, Florida, when the woman suffered an emergency on June 24.
But just a day after her passing, her son, Donald, realized that his mother’s jewelry had gone missing, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.
He reached out to the local hospital, where officials informed them that Mrs Irving’s body had arrived with no jewelry.
