( 4UMF NEWS ) NBC Apologizes For Skipping Moment Of Silence:

The “Today” show’s decision to spotlight Kim Kardashian’s mom while she gabbed about breast implants Tuesday morning — rather than cut away to observe a moment of silence for the Sept. 11 anniversary — brought intense backlash against NBC.

So NBC News President Steve Capus tried to make amends — not with viewers, but with affiliates — sending a memo to station managers who’ve been inundated with complaints, The New York Times reported Wednesday.

“Yesterday, we made an editorial call resulting in the September 11 moment of silence not being seen,” Capus reportedly wrote. “While we dedicated a substantial amount of airtime to anniversary events, we still touched a nerve with many of your viewers … and for that we apologize.”

The Times said NBC has not routinely observed a moment of silence on 9/11 morning since 2006, except for last year’s 10th anniversary.

Some local affiliates, such as WNBC in New York, carried local coverage of the 9/11 ceremony instead of the “Today” show interview with Kris Jenner, the “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” matriarch.

Morning show rivals “Good Morning America” and “CBS This Morning” also focused on the moment of silence marking the time the first hijacked plane hit the World Trade Center 11 years ago.

“Today” show reps, however, noted that 9/11 coverage was featured throughout Tuesday’s program.
