( 4UMF NEWS ) Mixtape Review: Jadakiss – Consignment:

Few rappers have the street credibility that they boast about in their rhymes. Jadakiss is one of them. Bred from the era when rappers were real hustlers, Kiss has been rapping about the reality of a brutally harsh winter in Yonkers, NY both literally and figuratively since The Lox days. His rhymes bang just as hard today as they did back then. Jadakiss gives a new offering to the streets with his latest mixtape with the help of DJ Drama and his Gansta Grillz series.

Aptly named Consignment, Jadakiss is full of the witty metaphors and wordplay about the drug game replete with gun violence that he is known for. Starting ‘Respect’ off with Joe Pesci’s Casino soliloquy sets the song off and Jadakiss demands respect and attention when he raps:

I keep my hands to myself, but I know how to touch you
They say I know how to rap, I say I know how to hustle
Trying to get wavy on me, but I know how to brush you
And now you think you the shit, but I know how to flush you

Fabolous is no slouch when it comes to bars and he earns just as much respect on the track as Jadakiss.

No college or nine-to-five, but I’m a grinder
Not the kind of nigga who major in something minor
My shooters like recruiters, they’ll come and find ya
Heat every day, I call them the summertimers

No one moves that white girl on a song quite like Jada. It’s not hard to imagine Kiss on a late night excursion the highway listening to his own song ‘Traffickin’ as he’s moving that product.

I switch cars with the Mexicans
I just hope this ain’t the car they arrest me in
The highway is on fire, diesel in the doors
Coke in the tires
It’s the price that you pay when you’re a supplier
The lord knows I’m just trying to make it to the fire
Seat belt on, 2 hands on the wheel
I break it all down, it’s least a couple mills
Get rid of the weight, keep all of the pills
I ain’t gotta be here, I just do it for the thrills

Jada is a dope solo artist but there’s something about having Styles P on the track, that makes Kiss the track just a bit more. The two playfully spar over ‘Dope Boy’ that is reminiscent of The Lox days.

Jadakiss is a strong enough rapper to carry a project by himself but sadly, he fell victim to what too many artists do nowadays and that’s load a project with unnecessary guest features. Having Styles P and Sheek Louch on a few tracks is a given. Fabolous and Lloyd Banks both had stand out spots on Consignment. No one rides his lane better than Jada but when he steps outside of his comfort zone, it is uncomfortable for all of us. Loading up Consignment with rappers like Gucci Mane, Waka Flocka, Future, A$AP Rocky for the sake of working with them just because he can, weighed the mixtape down.

Normally Jada and Emanny are guaranteed for an automatic hit for me but ‘Cuz We Paid’ brought the energy and feel of Consignment immediately and it was hard to recover.
‘I’m Good’ isn’t good enough for Jada; he’s way above such a simple song. It’s like asking a NASA physicist to do the multiplication table.

Outside of a handful of songs that seemed to come out of nowhere, Jadakiss continues to feed the streets and the fans at the same time.

Songs that deserve to be on repeat: ‘Paper Tags,’ ‘Respect,’ ‘Traffickin,’ ‘Count It,’ ‘Dope Boy’

Songs that deserve to be skipped: ‘Cuz We Paid,’ ‘I’m Good,’ ‘Back To The Money’
