( 4UMF NEWS ) Meningitis Outbreak Kills Five:
Five people have died and 35 have developed a rare fungal meningitis in a widening U.S. outbreak caused by contaminated vials of injectable steroid medications, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Thursday.
The 35 reported cases so far have been in 23 states: California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Nevada, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Texas and West Virginia.
Tennessee has been the hardest hit, with 25 cases and three deaths.
