( 4UMF NEWS ) Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter IV Album Review
After the lackluster Sorry For The Wait mixtape, Lil Wayne definitely made it up to his fans. After many delays, the highly-anticipated, long-awaited Tha Carter IV finally is released. And yes, it does live up to the hype.
Mind of a genius, with a heart of stone
Ha,
C4, Mr. Carter’s home!
Ever since his November release from jail after serving a ten-month sentence at Riker’s Island for gun possession in New York, fans and hip-hop lovers alike have been clamoring for new Lil Wayne music. Ten months since his release, Wayne has made their wishes come true.
I’m a beast I’ma an ass
I’m ahead of my class
I’m a diamond in the rough
Like a baby in the trash
- Megaman
Flushed with all-star guest appearances, C4 is packed with verses from Nas, Busta Rhymes, Bun B, Andre 3000, Shyne, Jadakiss Tech N9ne, John Legend, Rick Ross and T-Pain. Fellow YMCMB members Drake and Cory Gunz also grace C4. Lil Wayne partnered with Willy Will, T-Minus, Street Runners, Snizzy, MegaMan and a few others for the beats.
Niggas ain’t satisfied until they mama missin’
Niggas ain’t satisfied until they mama miss ‘em
Uh, I’m a monster, exorcisms
Tote tools like mechanics, mechanism
Nobody gives you a chance, you gotta take chances
Your family tree, I will break branches
Cause I don’t give a fuck, I put the ass in assassin
Smoke you like a blunt then it’s ashes to ashes
The future is born, put the past in the casket
If real shit is dead then nigga I’m a bastard
- President Carter
On “President Carter,” one of my favorites outside of the intro, interlude and outro, Weezy showed us why he’s the king of the rap game.
The few low points on the album for me were the ones that had a bit of an R&B hint to it. I’m not a fan of “How To Love’ but the official video definitely helps me get through the song. I’ll pass on the song with Bruno Mars and the one with John Legend but I understand why they made the cut. You can’t be hard all the time.
Living in a glass and everybody’s looking
But how can you get the picture if you don’t know who took it
This current affairs but who the hell cares
Everybody’s fighting over positions
Musical chairs
- Abortion
For me, the highlights of the album are two songs that Weezy’s not even on. On the “Intro,” Lil Wayne started it up by declaring,
Suicide note, suicide doors
I put in overtime, like a tied score
Tinted windows bitch that mean mind yours
And the weed loud, like a lions roar
Stare into the eyes the eyes of forever
Hear no evil see no evil, Helen Keller
The “Interlude” featuring Tech N9Ne and Andre 3000 picked up where the energy and lyrical assaults left off. At the end of the album Nas, Bun B., Shyne and Busta Rhymes didn’t drop the baton. “Outro” is by far my favorite song on C4 even if Wayne’s not on it.
Talkin ’bout baby money? I got your baby money
Kidnap your bitch, get that ‘how much you love your lady’ money
I know you fake nigga, press your brakes nigga
I’ll take you out, that’s a date nigga
Im a grown ass blood, stop playin with me
Play asshole and get an ass whippin’
- I’m Good
“I’m Good” has received a lot of buzz and not because of the guest appearances from Jadakiss and Drake. We all remember the shot fired at Cash Money’s Bryan ‘Baby/Birdmam’ Williams. We all know Lil Wayne was not going to let slick talk about his Daddy slide. Outside of the quick one-two jabs, this is still a great song.
I’m a southern delight, Louisiana pride
The belly of the beast, it ate me alive
Tell them bitches they’ll never take me alive
Ever since the day that I took a walk outside
- I Like The View From Here
Lil Wayne said it best in “6 Foot 7 Foot” with Cory Gunz. Rapping for more than half of his life and barely 30, Weezy has the rap game at his fingertips. Hard work definitely pays off.
You know I’ma ball until they turn off the field lights
The fruits of my labor
I’ma enjoy ‘em while they still ripe
