( 4UMF NEWS ) KitchenAid Makes Tasteless Obama Tweet:
“Obamas gma even knew it was going 2 b bad! ‘She died 3 days b4 he became president,’” KitchenAid tweeted to its roughly 25,000 followers during the presidential debate, before the post was quickly deleted.
A follow-up tweet from the same account then expressed profuse regrets for the tasteless post.
“Deepest apologies for an irresponsible tweet that is in no way a representation of the brand’s opinion,” the company said.
The initial tweet was commenting on Obama’s recollection of his grandmother during a debate discussion about entitlement programs.
“My grandmother, some of you know, helped to raise me — my grandparents did. My grandfather died a while back. My grandmother died three days before I was elected President,” Obama had said. “And she was fiercely independent… And the reason she could be independent was because of Social Security and Medicare.”
The initial post was deleted, but not before it was retweeted by several Twitter users, along with comments like “Wow,” “yikes” and “Stay classy, KitchenAid.”
The company’s damage control efforts continued for hours after the initial tweet, with the company’s head of branding apologing directly to Obama.
“Hello, everyone. My name is Cynthia Soledad, and I am the head of the KitchenAid brand,” she wrote from the same Twitter account. “I would like to personally apologize to President @BarackObama, his family and everyone on Twitter for the offensive tweet sent earlier.”
“It was carelessly sent in error by a member of our Twitter team who, needless to say, won’t be tweeting for us anymore,” she added.
