( 4UMF NEWS ) Joe Girardi‘s Dad Passes Away:
Jerry Girardi, the father of Yankees manager Joe Girardi, has died at the age of 81.
Girardi died in Metamora, Ill. Saturday morning, according to the obituary posted on the site for Deiters Funeral Home in Peoria, Ill.
Funeral services for Girardi are scheduled for Monday, Oct. 15.
Girardi served in the US Air Force during the Korean War, and later worked in construction sales and as a bricklayer.
He enjoyed coaching his children’s sports teams, the obituary stated.
Jerry Girardi is survived by five children, including Joe, and six grandchildren. His wife Angela died on June 28, 1984.
Joe Girardi has not publicly commented on his father’s death. The Yankees are currently in the middle of the American League Division Series against the Baltimore Orioles, leading 2-1 in the best-of-five matchup. They’re set to play Game 4 in the Bronx Thursday night.
The team will observe a moment of silence for Jerry Girardi prior to the game. Joe Girardi has been with the team for every game.
