( 4UMF NEWS ) Jason Kidd Apologizes:

Cagey NBA veteran Jason Kidd issued a semi-apology on twitter Friday for his getting busted for alleged drunk driving after crashing his SUV in the Hamptons.

The tweet contained the 39-year-old point guard’s first public comments about the arrest, which came just four days after the Knicks signed the perennial All-Star to a three-year $9.5 million deal.

Sources told the Daily News that Kidd — who entered a plea of innocent — was pounding vodka at the East Hampton nightclub SL East before the crash.

A photo posted on TMZ.com showed Kidd staggering from the club, being held up by another man, about an hour before the wreck.

A boozy and bleary Kidd was busted about 2 a.m. Sunday after plowing his Cadillac Escalade into a utility pole near his $5.9 million Hamptons mansion.

His car was totaled in the wreck, but the future Hall of Famer escaped uninjured.

Responding cops found that Kidd “smelled strongly of an alcoholic beverage, he had slurred speech, very unsteady afoot and had bloodshot, watery and glassy eyes,” court documents said.

The renowned point guard was so blitzed that he had no recollection of the crash.

“I had a few drinks,” Kidd said, according to court documents. “I was going home from a club. I don’t know what happened.”

Kidd started his night at a charity event for singer Ne-Yo’s foundation. The Knicks have made no comment on the case, and the NBA said it would take no action until the court case is resolved.
