( 4UMF NEWS ) iPhone 5 Release Date Revealed:
Verizon employees are reportedly barred from going on vacation for about a week in September, which observers speculate points to one highly-anticipated event: the release of the next iPhone.
According to a report Tuesday on the blog TechCrunch, workers for the carrier can’t take off from Sept. 21-30 — indicating the latest version of Apple’s wildly popular smartphone could be on the market as soon as Sept. 21.
For Verizon, the nation’s biggest wireless provider, the iPhone has been a top seller among its customers, although other products have been “gaining ground,” according to website AppleInsider.
iPhone enthusiasts anticipate the next-gen version — which could be dubbed the iPhone 5 — could be unveiled on Sept. 12 and avaliable to the public soon after.
The report on Verizon blacking out employees’ time off mirrors a report last week from BGR.com claiming AT&T has ordered an “all-hands-on-deck policy” from mid-September through mid-October.
Details surrounding the next iPhone remain murky, but reports say it could be thinner in size and run on a faster 4G network.
Meanwhile, the cost of the iPhone 4 and iPhone4S are looking more affordable, with Apple’s retail stores providing a discounted price to customers who sign up for new contracts, MacRumors.com reported this month.
For instance, the iPhone4s is priced at $150 for a two-year contract, a savings of about $50, according to the website.
