( 4UMF NEWS ) Hearse Driver Dies Behind The Wheel:
A female hearse driver died while heading to a funeral Monday, slumping behind the steering wheel with a loaded casket in the back, authorities said.
The eerie scene on a bustling Beverly Hills street was reported by a passer-by who called 911.
Police said they found no evidence of suspicious activity.
“She was a lady in her 50s who was found unresponsive while transporting a body for a service,” Asst. Chief Coroner Ed Winter said.
“There were no signs of foul play. Evidently she had a medical history,” he said.
An autopsy was pending notification of her family, he said.
First responders got the call around 3 p.m. Monday and found the gleaming white hearse parked near the Beverly Hills Hotel on Crescent Drive, according to a statement from the Beverly Hills Police Department.
The driver was already dead when paramedics arrived, police said.
