*** BREAKING NEWS ***
A gunman opened fire near Texas A&M University and “multiple casualties” were reported Monday in yet another outbreak of senseless gun violence.
At least two people were hit and police in College Station, Tex., have taken the shooter into custody, the university reported.
Neither the identities of the victims nor the gunman were immediately known, although there were unconfirmed reports that one of the wounded was a police officer.
Bullets began flying around noon from a house near the campus, Houston TV stations reported.
The school’s emergency website immediately issued a “Code Maroon,” warning students and staffers to stear clear of one section of campus.
At 12:44 p.m., the site reported “the shooter is in custody.”
Texas A&M is the sixth biggest university in the country and the home of the George W. Bush Presidential Library.
