A lot of buzz has been swirling around the opening of the brand new arena that will be home to the Brooklyn Nets when the season tips off in the fall. With the team gathering at a ceremony on the steps of Brooklyn Borough Hall last Friday, all anyone is talking about in New York are the Brooklyn Nets. The buzz surrounding the Nets is partly built around its minority owner, Jay-Z who is setting up shop and holding court at the new Barclays Center in his hometown. The mega hip-hop star will kick off events to commemorate the opening of the new arena with not one but EIGHT shows in September and October.

The concerts have become a hot ticket item in the city with tickets to the sold-out shows going for almost a grand on StubHub.com. Jay-Z is one of the biggest rappers in the game. His Watch The Throne tour with Kanye West pulled in an estimated $48.3 million alone and that doesn’t include the $17.3 million made in album sales.

The ‘99 Problems’ rapper recently performed at the iconic Carnegie Hall, making him the first rapper ever to headline a show there. The two-day concerts sold out in a matter of minutes with the proceeds going to the United Way of New York City and the Shawn Carter Scholarship Foundation. Jay-Z brought out several surprise guests including Alicia Keys and Nas so you can imagine who’ll accompany the Brooklyn-bred rapper when he inaugurates Barclays Center.
