( 4UMF NEWS ) Farmer Grows Marijuana By Accident:

Nancy Botwin’ would be proud. A 74-year-old farmer had to destroy a field of more than 1,000 cannabis plants that he claimed to have grown… accidentally.

The man reportedly did not recognize the ten-feet-high cannabis plants that stretched across his one-acre field in Southern Germany.

The potato farmer, whose name has been withheld by officials, said he wanted to grow sunflowers but didn’t have any sunflower seeds. He, instead, spread half a sack of birdseed throughout his farm in the small Bavarian town of Moembris.

“He only wanted a few nice sunflowers,” a police spokesman told The Local. But the farmer was reportedly unaware the birdseed contained hemp.

When the sunflowers eventually grew, they were overshadowed by towering shrubs of cannabis. The farmer reportedly wondered what the strange plants were, according to the police report.

Other locals, however, had no trouble recognizing cannabis. Concerned citizens contacted the authorities on Friday. Police officers went to the property to investigate on Tuesday.

The police, too, identified the illegal plants on sight. The farmer expressed shock when the cops told him what he had grown.

Police ordered him to destroy the cannabis field, which he plowed under police supervision.

The cannabis was too weak to lead to intoxication, reports CNBC. But he isn’t necessarily free just yet. The local prosecutor’s office is deciding whether to file charges against the man or not, Stefan Brabetz, police spokesman, told NBC.
