( 4UMF NEWS ) Dwight Howard On Slam Dunk Contest
Dwight Howard last competed in the All-Star Weekend event in 2009, and you probably shouldn’t expect him to take part in it ever again.
From the Orlando Sentinel: “Howard has not changed his mind about next month’s NBA dunk contest at Amway Center. He still is retired from the event. Asked Wednesday if he would compete in the contest Feb. 25, the night before the All-Star Game, Howard dismissed the idea. ‘I’m too old for that,’ Howard responded.
During the 2009-10 season, Howard said he was done with the contest. He has said he wants to cut down on the wear-and-tear on his legs. He also has said it’s difficult to come up with original ideas for the event.
Howard competed in 2007, 2008 and 2009. In 2008, he won the contest when he took off his Magic jersey to reveal a Superman T-shirt and also donned a Superman cape. In 2009, he finished as the runner-up to Nate Robinson, who wore the New York Knicks’ green jersey and jumped over Howard during the final found.
