Dancing With The Stars Kicks Off On High Note

( 4UMF NEWS ) Dancing With The Stars Kicks Off On High Note:

It’s back! Dancing With The Stars is back for it’s 14th season! Crazy right? While No one is being eliminated this week, pressure is still on as they will have to dance again next Monday night then the first elimination will be next Tuesday. Here is the scoop on all the dances, judges comments and scores!
Maria Menounos (TV Correspondent/Actress) & Derek Hough

They kick off the season with a dance to the Cha-Cha-Cha. The judges all gave her a pretty great reception, said she was excellent but needs to be more confident in her movements

Jack Wagner (Actor) & Anna Trebunskaya

Judges though Jack and Anna’s dance to the Foxtrot was beautifully danced and acted. They loved the happy mood and lightness of the dance. Len did say he wants Jack to work more on his technique.

Donald Driver (NFL Player; Green Bay Packers) & Peta Murgatroy

Donald and Peta dance to the Cha-Cha-Cha where Len says Donald started to lose track of time due to being intense about some of his movements. Brunoa say’s Donald is a diamond in the rough and the dance was energetic.

Gavin DeGraw (Musician/Song-Writer) & Karina Smirnoff

Gavin and Karina’s dance was to the Foxtrot. Lee thinks Gavin coped well in a difficult dance and says he was a little stiff in the wrong parts of the dance where Gavin comes back with a quirky joke saying he also “gets stiff at the worst times”. Ha, brilliant. Moving on…Carrie Ann says he has great musical interpretation but should be more smooth.

Roshon Fegan (Actor/Song-Writer) & Chelsie Hightower

Their first dance was to the Cha-Cha-Cha which Brunoa loved, saying Roshon can “go on and on and on”. Carrie Ann says it was the coolest spin of the Cha-Cha-Cha she’s ever seen in the entire series. Len says Roshon can definitely dance but the performance level was low, wants to see more cha-cha-cha.

Sherri Shepherd (Comedian/Actress/TV Personality) & Val Chmerkovskiy

Sherri and Val (Brother to Maksim) danced to the Foxtrot. Carrie Ann says Sherri is the happiest contestant she’s ever seen on the show; said she’s sassy and elegant but with a few mix ups. Len says Sherri brought the joy of dance and summed it up with “fun, fun, fun!”. Bruno says he can do with a bit of Sherri every day of the week, also saying she lights up the room.

Melissa Gilbert (Actress/Writer/Producer) & Maksim Chmerkovskiy

Melissa and older brother Maksim danced to the Cha-Cha-Cha last night where Len discussed the ambitiousness of the dance but would like to see more hip action. Bruno sai there is ore work to do with the movement but was an inspiring first dance. Carrie Ann say Melissa never missed step but should work on her nerves.

William Levy (Actor) & Cheryl Burke

William and Cheryl also danced to the Cha-Cha-Cha on the DWTS premiere that made Bruno practically jump out of his seat loudly saying the pair is the hottest package of the season. Carrie Ann said William had such easy and grace during the performance and Len says William performed it right on the edge but kept it in control.

Martina Navratilova (Retired Tennis Player) & Tony Dovolani

Martina and Tony share a Foxtrot dance where stiffness and nerves were oozing out of her body during the performance. Carrie Ann said it was beautiful but Martina needs to work on her turns. Len says it was close but not quite there for him and was a little too careful. Bruno says he loved it but she needs to extend her moves, needs more work on her foot work.

Katherine Jenkins (Classical Singer) & Mark Ballas

Katherine and Mark also do a Foxtrot dance that leads to Bruno saying how incredible the dance was and how much he loved the quality of movement. Carrie Ann felt like she was watching two pro’s at work and that it was the best first dance on the first episode she’s ever seen.

Gladys Knight (Singer/Song-Writer/Humanitarian/Author) & Tristan MacManus

Gladys and Tristan do the Cha-Cha-Cha where she shows off her star power. Carrie Ann says the performance made her want to get up and dance, Len felt the dance wasn’t forced and was wonderfully done.

Jaleel White (Actor/Screen Writer) & Kym Johnson

Last but not least – Steve Urkel – erm, I mean, Jaleel White dances! With Kym, they dance the Foxtrot. Carrie Ann talks about how smooth the dance was. Len said the dance had elegance and sophistication then added “this is the best first show of any season”. Bruno says the show has been fantastic and loved the performance.

Contestants and Judges Scores (In the order of Carrie Ann, Len and Bruno):

Maria Menounos & Derek Hough 7, 7, 7 (21)
Jack Wagner & Anna Trebunskaya 8, 7, 8 (23)
Donald Driver & Peta Murgatroyd 7, 7, 7 (21)
Gavin DeGraw & Karina Smirnoff 7, 6, 7 (20)
Roshon Fegan & Chelsie Hightower 8, 7, 8 (23)
Sherri Shepherd & Val Chmerkovskiy 8, 7, 8 (23)
Melissa Gilbert & Maksim Chmerkovskiy 7, 6, 7 (20)
William Levy & Cheryl Burke 8, 8, 8 (24)
Martina Navratilova & Tony Dovolani 7, 6, 7 (20)
Katherine Jenkins & Mark Ballas 9, 8, 9 (26)
Gladys Knight & Tristan MacManus 8, 7, 8 (23)
Jaleel & Kym Johnson 9, 8, 9 (26)
Overall, I personally thought the dances were amazing! Some nervousness came peaking through with some of them but obviously not enough as DWTS ranked in the highest scores a premiere episode has ever seen. Not a single pair got a score below 20/30. As the One Tree Hill fanatic that I am, I’m totally Team Gavin and Team Maria, what about you? Tune in next Monday at 8pm eastern time on ABC to see the second set of dances from all these teams.
