Charles Barkley is never at a loss for words, especially when assessing the Knicks. And with the race for the NBA playoffs all but complete, Barkley chimed in on the surging Knicks’ playoff chances.
Despite a 15-5 record since Mike Woodson took over in March, and praising Anthony for his offensive explosion over the last month, Barkley gave the ‘best offensive player in the NBA‘ no shot to advance past the first round of the playoffs for only the second time in his eight-year career.
“He’s scoring at an unbelievable rate, but the Knicks still stink dude,” Barkley told WFAN‘s Boomer Esiason and Craig Carton on Thursday morning. “They’re not going anywhere. They’re going to be one-and-done.”
The Knicks – currently the seventh-seed in the Eastern Conference standings – will likely draw Miami or Chicago in the first round, depending on how the final games of the regular season play out.
But according to Barkley, the Knicks season filled with twists and turns since the offseason will end against either opponent.
“The Knicks are going to lose in the first round of the playoffs,” Barkley said. “You talk about that game when Chicago missed all the free throws. When Derrick Rose was out for a month. He went for 8 for 35 and then they still missed four free throws down the stretch. They’re not going to beat the Heat. They’re not going to beat the Bulls, man. So stop that.”
