( 4UMF NEWS ) Bumbo Baby Seats Recalled:
Millions of the popular Bumbo Baby Seats are being recalled amid frightening reports of infants squeezing out of the chairs and suffering skull fractures. The company is issuing a free repair kit with a restraint belt to customers.
“The restraint belt will help prevent children from getting out of or falling from the seat when it is used as intended: on the floor with adult supervision and never on raised surfaces,” Bumbo said in a statement, according to The Associated Press.
About half of the injuries were caused when adults used the foam seats on tables, countertops or other raised surfaces.
In 2007, about 1 million of the seats were recalled, prompting Bumbo to add warning labels against putting the seats on raised surfaces.
Since that recall, there have been 50 known cases of babies falling from the seats while they were placed on raised surfaces, according to Bumbo and the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
There have been another 34 instances of babies falling out of the seats while they were on the floor or at an unknown elevation. Twenty-one infant skull fractures have been reported.
About 4 million Bumbo Baby Seats are being recalled. The seats are sold at Walmart and Target for about $40.
