( 4UMF NEWS ) Andrew Bynum Leaving Lakers:
It seems the writing is on the wall. Los Angeles Lakers center Andrew Bynum, the subject of much trade speculation throughout his career, may be on his way out of L.A. after the Lakers fell in the second round of the playoffs for the second consecutive year.
When asked after the elimination game on Monday whether he expected to sign a long-term extension with the team this summer, Bynum responded with his increasingly frequent and increasingly frustrating indifference. “I’m not sure. It really doesn’t matter to me. I’ll play anywhere.”
Bynum has blossomed into an All-Star and his talent is unmistakeable, but he doesn’t seem to have the passion for basketball that is required to become a great player. And moreover, he has poorly represented the organization multiple times over the past two years.
The Lakers have a team option on Bynum for next season, and by all accounts they plan to pick up that option. But whether or not they place him officially on the trade block depends on if VP of Player Personnel – and owner’s son – Jim Buss relents on his unwavering support of the big man whom many have dubbed Jim’s “pet project.”
Changes are coming to the Lakers. That much is certain. And Andrew Bynum may have just foreshadowed his own exit.
