( 4UMF NEWS ) A Tribe Called Quest Doc Wins Best Film
Michael Rapaport’s critically acclaimed documentary, Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels Of A Tribe Called Quest, took the top prize in its category at the Producers Guild Awards, which was held at the Beverly Hilton on Saturday night (January 20).
Rapaport’s documentary was one of the year’s most talked about films, as it showed a rare look at the internal successes and struggles of one of the greatest Hip-Hop groups in musical history.
Rapaport, who also served as one of the film’s producers, accepted the award with co-producers Edward Parks, Frank Mele, and Debra Koffler. ”I really can’t believe we won,” a surprised Rapaport exclaimed.
The astonishment Rapaport felt could have something to do with the irony surrounding its nominations this year – rarely does a film win at the Producers Guild Awards that has not been nominated for an Oscar.
