6-Year-Old Takes BMW On Joyride

( 4UMF NEWS ) 6-Year-Old Takes BMW On Joyride:

A curious 6-year-old Pittsburgh girl took her sleeping mother’s BMW for a quick joyride Sunday morning to go see her father, but the drive only lasted a few blocks before she crashed into a slew of other vehicles about a half-mile away from her home.

Nobody was hurt in the accident, which occurred around 9 a.m.

The kid-commandeered BMW hit two parked cars, pushing one of them into another car, and slammed into a pole, police said.

“The girl decided she wanted to visit her father, who lived in a different location. She picked up the car keys and got in the car and drove away,” Pittsburgh Police Sgt. Jerry Parker told WTAE-TV.

The mother of the child, whose name hasn’t been released by authorities, called police immediately after she woke up and saw that her car and her daughter had disappeared.

Rommie Hawkins, who lives in the same neighborhood as the girl and her mother, told WTAE he was shoveling snow when he saw a car with a little girl behind the wheel headed straight for him.

“I was like ‘Stop, stop, stop.’ She looked at me, and she took back off. And she stopped again, so I started running up the hill, telling her to stop. And she was going and stopping, going and stopping,” Hawkins said. “She stopped just in time not to hit me,” he added. “She was this little kid. She couldn’t have been more than 8 or 9 years old.”

Police are continuing to investigate the incident and will probe how the young girl knew how to drive in the first place, but they haven’t decided yet whether anyone will face charges.
