43-Year-Old Man Gunned Down

( 4UMF NEWS ) 43-Year-Old Man Gunned Down:

A gunman chased down and killed a 43-year-old man once accused of murder on a street on the city’s Southeast Side, police said today.

The shooting happened just after 10:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 3000 block of East 79th Place just several blocks from Rainbow Beach Park, according to Chicago police.

Killed was Eddie Coleman, who lived on the block where he was wounded, according to the Cook County medical examiner‘s office and court records.

Witnesses told police Coleman was standing on the street where he was arguing with a man, said Police News Affairs Officer Robert Perez. When the unidentified man pulled out a gun, Coleman ran east on 79th Street. The gunman ran toward him while firing a handgun and struck Coleman, police said, citing early reports.

Coleman fell to the ground and the gunman stood over him and fired more shots, Perez said.

Coleman was struck multiple times in the chest and back. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Police didn’t offer a possible motive for the shooting, but said no one was in custody.

Coleman was on parole for a 2011 conviction for aggravated DUI, according to court records. He had a long list of arrests, along with both misdemeanor and felony convictions. In 1999, Coleman was charged with first-degree murder and aggravated discharge until prosecutors dropped the case the next year.
